UATH Awards Contract for Supply of 1.5 Tesla Helium-Free MRI Machine
Abuja – June 2, 2026
The University of Abuja Teaching Hospital (UATH) has awarded a contract for the supply and installation of a 1.5 Tesla Helium-free MRI machine to strengthen its diagnostic services.
Speaking during the presentation of the award letter, the Chief Medical Director, Professor Thairu Yunusa said the long-awaited Helium-free MRI machine, when delivered, will enable the hospital to diagnose complex diseases with greater accuracy and without the safety concerns associated with conventional systems.
Professor Yunusa noted that as a strategic gateway teaching hospital in the Federal Capital Territory, the new MRI will position UATH among world-class diagnostic and interventional centers. He added that the equipment will significantly enhance the hospital's diagnostic armamentarium and improve patient outcomes.
The contract award followed a competitive bidding process conducted in line with due process and the provisions of the Public Procurement Act, 2007.
Receiving the award letter, the representative of the contracting firm assured the hospital management of timely delivery and installation in strict compliance with the terms of the agreement.
