MDCAN UATH HOLDS 2025 AGM/SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCE
The UATH Chapter of the Medical and Dental Consultants' Association of Nigeria (MDCAN) held its 2025 Annual General Meeting and Scientific Conference on 14th August.
Conference Theme
"The Role of Medical Entrepreneurship in Addressing Healthcare Disparities"
Sub-theme: "Artificial Intelligence in Medicine: Transforming Healthcare Delivery"
Acting CMD, Associate Prof. Bob Ukonu, commended MDCAN for promoting knowledge exchange and innovation in healthcare during his opening remarks at the well-attended event.
The AGM featured goodwill messages from former CMDs and other stakeholders, reflecting on the growth of medical consultancy services in Nigeria and the important role of MDCAN in shaping healthcare policies.
Professional Excellence Award
The highlight of the event was the presentation of the Professional Excellence Award to renowned gynaecologist Dr. Ibrahim Wada in recognition of his outstanding contributions to medical practice and education in Nigeria.
Dr. Wada, visibly moved by the honor, delivered the keynote address on "Sustainable Medical Practice in the 21st Century," drawing from his decades of experience in both clinical practice and healthcare management.
Scientific Sessions
The scientific conference featured multiple parallel sessions addressing both main themes, with presentations on:
- Innovative healthcare delivery models
- AI applications in diagnostics and treatment planning
- Entrepreneurial opportunities for medical professionals
- Bridging the urban-rural healthcare divide
- Ethical considerations in medical AI
The conference concluded with a gala dinner where members networked and discussed implementation strategies for the ideas generated during the sessions. The MDCAN UATH chapter announced plans to publish the conference proceedings and establish working groups to advance the key recommendations.
