Management of the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital has warned that it would not take kindly to truancy, unauthorized travels, absenteeism and general lackadaisical approach to duty by any of its recently engaged house officers and interns.

Chief Medical Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Hospital, Professor Bissallah Ekele handed down the warning at an interactive session to welcome them to the Hospital Community. “While I welcome you, it is also important that I caution on the possible pitfalls that can either terminate or negatively delay completion of your one- year mandatory internship here,” he said. He charged them to conduct themselves in a manner appropriate of their professional callings. “Conduct yourselves in a refined manner, work with passion, appear neat and above all, make humility, honesty and hard work your principles.” he added.

Also speaking, the Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee of the Hospital, Dr. Nicholas Baamlong charged the house officers and interns to apply themselves adequately to the one-year programme as it would be a vigorous one, requiring commitment and dedication. In a remark, the Deputy Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee in charge of Training and Research, Dr. Kudirat Olateju enjoined them to justify their selection through a very competitive screening by applying more of their time to the training. Speaking through an Assistant Chief Administrative Officer, the Director of Administration, Mrs. Modupe Khadijat Adebanjo advised them to be guided throughout the period of the internship and house job by the provisions of the civil service.

Responding on behalf of the interns and house officers, Mr. Gospel Precious and Dr. Christian Agulanna assured the Management that they would justify the confidence reposed in them throughout the one-year programme.
