The Chief Medical Director, University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, Professor Bissallah Ekele has appealed to the House of Representatives’ Committee on Health to, as a matter of urgency, push for increased funding of the health sector. This, he said, is with a view to expanding the scope of health care delivery and meeting the many health needs of Nigerians.

Professor Ekele made the appeal when he played host to the Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Tanko Sununu Yusuf in his office. He said the country was highly endowed with the right calibre of professionals and that what was in short supply was the enabling environment to operate. Professor Ekele noted that with the right environment, capital flight due to medical tourism would be highly reduced.

Earlier, the Chairman, House Committee on Health, Hon. Tanko Sununu said his visit was to interact with the Chief Medical Director who was not only his professional mentor but also a key player in the health sector. He gave an assurance that the House Committee on health would deliver on its mandates to Nigerians.
